House of Books Children's Specialist

Career Center,

House of Books is hiring a Children's Specialist to be the store's point of contact and front-facing employee in directing and growing our Little House of Books brand. Whoever takes on this role will also have the opportunity to interface with publishers about new releases, author events, and marketing plans.

Located in Northwest Connecticut, in the picturesque town of Kent, House of Books is a beloved local landmark, having served its region since 1976. The store features an eclectic mix of bestsellers, literary and genre fiction, general interest nonfiction, art books, and more, in addition to a robust selection of children’s literature. The bookstore recently underwent a major renovation / redesign, reopening in its new space in November of 2021.

The Children’s Specialist will manage and execute the Little House of Books offerings from beginning to end—from curating the books and selling them, to creating programs and new sales / marketing opportunities in the community—all in the pursuit of a unified vision. Anyone hired for this job will need to work independently and have a great deal of drive to oversee and create opportunities, but will also work in concert with the store's General Manager and Marketing Director. This is NOT a remote position, although some remote work is possible.

Key responsibilities will include:

**The primary stocking of the kids sections of House of Books, including frontlist orders with sales reps, and also restocks

**Inventing and hosting kids programming in the bookstore, with authors and community partners

**Regular outreach to schools in Kent, and also nearby cities, to explore opportunities for business expansion and events

**Managing community contacts in executing town-wide events, including our annual Find Waldo Local partnerships

**Working on the sales floor to organize / shelve / display books and also assist customers

**Recommending books not only to customers but also internally, to staff, to generate employee knowledge and even excitement

Full-time House of Books employment includes a comprehensive benefits packaging, including heath and vision and dental, as well as opportunity to enroll in a 401k.
