House of Books, a boutique literary bookstore located in Kent, CT, is seeking a Marketing Director to join the team! This is an hourly position starting at $20/hr, 40 hours a week, and comes with full benefits (health, vision, dental, 401k matching).Located in Northwest Connecticut, two hours north of New York City, House of Books is a small bookstore with big ambitions. Kent is a hub of arts and culture, a booming small town with substantial weekend traffic from the city, which often feels like an extension of NYC culture. Accordingly, House of Books is a city bookstore that just happens to be in the country.The Marketing Director at House of Books has ample opportunity to work independently, and in coordination with the General Manager, to shape the store’s larger aesthetic vision. This is a leadership position at the store, and the ideal candidate will have strong organization skills, an ability to self-direct, and a willingness to jump immediately into an ambitious project with many moving parts.Some remote work is possible.

Duties will include:

*Planning, promoting, and executing author and author-less events, both digitally and in-person

*Managing and / or staffing any offsite events

*Communicating with publisher partners to schedule programming for adults and kids

*Developing House of Books’ online presence, especially on social media platforms, and keeping the website fresh and updated, particularly related to event- and marketing-related content

*Leading outreach to local organizations and media, including regular press releases about House of Books activities

*Producing weekly newsletters and other digital communications, as well as growing the audience for such communications

*Creating marketing materials, signage, and other branded items (experience with Adobe Illustrator is important)

*Pursuing / promoting specialized sale opportunities (e.g., bulk sales, B2B orders)

*Keeping apprised of regional and national trends in the world of independent bookstores and bookselling via industry resources such as Shelf Awareness and Publishers Weekly

*Engaging with staff to create and implement marketing plan

*Additional duties as directed
