Join us for a lunchtime talk with children's book expert Jana Herko, Manager of Scholastic's Corporate Leveling Center. She will explain what's happening with the current "reading wars" and the changes to how reading is taught at the elementary level, and share insights about the implications for how children's books are leveled. Bring your questions about early readers, chapter books, and how you can best help kids and parents find the best books!
Jana Herko has worked in the educational publishing industry for 20 years. She currently manages Scholastic's Corporate Leveling Center where she specializes in Guided Reading and LexileÒleveling systems. Additionally, she curates books for Scholastic’s Literacy Pro. She has a B.S. in Education and a M.Ed. with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction in Children’s Literature. When she is not reading, Jana spends time creating fabric art. She lives in North Carolina with her two cats Jack and James.
