Rebate for new bookstores at Fall Conference

Bookstores who have never attended get a free ticket package and a $100 hotel rebate. Purchase your full conference package then check in with NAIBA staff at the conference registration desk. Following the conference, submit your hotel bill to NAIBAbooksellers@gmail.com. Rebates will be processed after the conference.

Holiday Catalog: Rebate for Imprinting

Bookstores that purchase a full ticket packet for the Fall Conference before September 1 will receive a $50 rebate on their holiday catalog imprinting. The rebate will be sent by NAIBA to the store at year-end.

Holiday Catalog: Credit for Displays & Features

NAIBA offers a $50 credit to any store that sends us photos of catalog displays, newsletter articles featuring the holiday catalog, etc. Email us proof of in-store and online promotions of the catalog titles. We’ll credit your store $50 towards any NAIBA program – membership, event registration, etc.

Binc Scholarship to the NAIBA Fall Conference

Binc has generously awarded two Fall Conference scholarships to NAIBA. Two lucky first-time conference attendees will receive $250 each to cover travel and hotel expenses, and NAIBA will sweeten the scholarship by awarding each a complimentary ticket packet. The winners will be chosen at random. Fill out the raffle "card" for NAIBA by August 24 to be entered into the drawing.

**Do not delay in making your hotel reservation for the drawing, since rooms may be gone by then!

** You can hold off registering for the conference. If you don't win the raffle, you will still have time to get the discounted ticket package. If you've already registered, we will issue you a refund.

NAIBA Offering a WI Diversity Scholarship

NAIBA has funded a diversity scholarship to ABA's Winter Institute for a staffer from one of it's member bookstores.

Interested booksellers should email NAIBA the following:

Name, email & name of store

Number of years in bookselling

Diverse-identification

One paragraph essay that discusses: why you want to attend WI; what you bring to your store & the industry; and what you hope to gain by attending.

Number of times you've been to Winter Institute (although this has no impact on the scholarship).

Booksellers who have won a scholarship of any kind to Winter Institute in the past three years are ineligible for the NAIBA diversity scholarship, as are booksellers who win any other scholarship to the 2019 Winter Institute. Winner must be from a store that is both a NAIBA and ABA member in good standing.

DEADLINE: August 24, 2018

Carla Gray Memorial Scholarship for Emerging Bookseller-Activists

Would you like to attend Winter Institute, your regional trade show in 2019,  and receive funding to create a program at your store that impacts your community in a positive way?

Then you should consider applying for this first-ever year-long scholarship provided by the Binc Foundation and the Friends of Carla Gray.

Carla Gray believed that books could change people and that people change the world.  This memorial scholarship in her honor connects on both fronts, at the intersection of books and activism.  Supporting emerging booksellers and their efforts to make a difference in one's community were essential to Carla. The community outreach project can be anything from providing books to underserved children or bringing a special speaker to your store, the sky is the limit. We want you to think outside the box and hopefully, your project could be shared with other stores.

You are eligible to apply if you:

  • Have at least one year but fewer than 5 years of bookselling experience.
  • Work part-time or full-time at a bookstore in good standing with the ABA and your regional association.
  • Are willing and able to commit one year to complete the scholarship and you intend to remain employed as a bookseller through the implementation of your project.
  • Your store owner agrees to partner with you on your community outreach project.
